Working as part of a team the Funeral Operative will attend Funerals, drive the Hearse or Limousine and/or assist with pall bearing duties. You will also work on a rota basis to collect the deceased which can be out of hours and transport to the appropriate hospital, affording the appropriate consideration and professionalism to family members, nursing staff, carers, police and any others who may be present at the time of collection. If you feel that you have empathy and can cope with the bereaved in difficult circumstances then this could be the role you have been looking for.
Collection of the deceased, which may occur outside normal business hours.
Work as part of a rota for out of hours collections
Transportation of the deceased to the appropriate hospital as directed by the coroners' contract.
Complete all appropriate paperwork & identification tags on all collections.
Complete details in the appropriate registers when moving a deceased and/or ashes from one location to another.
Driving either the Hearse or Limousine on the day of a Funeral, transporting either the deceased or family members from the house, Chapel of Rest to the cemetery/church on the day of the funeral.
Assist by acting as a Pallbearer (if required) on the day of a Funeral.
Prepare Name plates for coffins as required and within company guidelines.
Assist in submitting completed paperwork to crematorium/cemetery/council offices & assist in the collection of ashes from the crematorium when they are ready.
Promote the company in a professional manner when in attendance at external events, venues, etc.
Assist in the mortuary with preparation of the deceased as & when required.
Upon receipt of coffins make & dress in accordance with the appropriate requirements.
Maintain the cleanliness, fuelling, servicing and report any damage to company vehicles.
Liaise with bereaved families, Cemeteries, Churches, Crematoriums, Police, Coroners, Doctors, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Hospices and Florists.
Educated to GCSE standard (minimum of four at Grade C & above) including English & Maths preferred.
Previous Office & administrative experience an advantage.
Must have good communication skills with a good Telephone manner
Computer literate with good keyboard skills
Ability to cope under pressure with good organisational skills
Ability to work well as part of a team and use own initiative.
Good levels of accuracy and attention to detail
Able to emphasise with all parties at a most difficult time.
Must be physically fit to carry out lifting duties.
Must hold a full clean driving licence.
Must be happy to work on a rota basis for out of hours cover
Salary circa £17,000 + call out payments of £25 per call out
Hours 9.00 - 5.00 Monday to Friday
Call out twice per week + 1 in 3 or 4 weekends
