Cost Accountant

Prime Appointments are pleased to be working with a company based in Earls Colne who require a Cost Accountant to join their growing team. This is newly created permanent position paying £45,000 - £55,000 depending on experience and working a 37.5-hour week Monday - Friday 9:00am - 5:30pm (timings open to negotiation).


This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a growing global company in a stand-alone role for the Colchester base. This role will be reporting into a liaising the Head of Finance who is USA based.


Main duties for this Cost Accountant will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain the cost accounting system, documents, and records of the organisation
  • Analyse and recommend costs and cost savings
  • Prepare and complete internal cost audits
  • Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for financial statements
  • Analyse the data collected and log a detailed record of the results
  • Analyse any changes in goods or services provided in order to determine what effect it has on the cost
  • Analyse manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
  • Make estimates of new and proposed product costs
  • Provide management with reports that specify and compare factors that affect prices and profitability of products or services
  • Assist in audits and general ledger preparation
  • Conduct physical inventories and monitor the cycle count program
  • Overseeing and analysing cost expenditures and purchases within the organisation
  • Review services and goods, record data, and make recommendations about cost-efficient and financially feasible cost options


Key Skills & Attributes needed to be considered for this position:

  • Detail oriented, knowledgeable on statistics, have strong problem-solving skills, work comfortably under pressure, and deliver on tight deadlines
  • This is a new varied role and will suit a highly motivated and self-driven person with the ability to multitask
  • Confident, professional, and meticulous with a keen interest in the cost-efficient operations of the organisation
  • Outstanding presentation and report-writing skills, with the ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team
  • 3-5 years of Cost Accounting and Gross Margin related experience (essential) in a manufacturing background
  • Professional Accountancy Qualification (ACCA/ACA/CIMA) or studying towards
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles
  • Solid cost systems background
  • Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail with superb organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent report-writing, communication, and IT skills
  • Ability to travel
