Team building activities are a great way to boost morale and bring everyone closer together. With the relaxed, out-of-hours setting, fun activities and the chance to let your hair down, there’s no better way to fast-track work friendships and build camaraderie.
But how does one choose the perfect team building event? With a wide range of tastes to accommodate, it’s important to get the balance right. Choose the right activity and you’ll have the chance to boost team relationships, improve internal culture and maybe even change the way you work together! So how do you decide on an activity that will keep everyone happy? And without breaking the budget?
As a medium-sized, family-owned recruitment agency, fun and friendly team building events are our speciality. Our ethos is that teamwork makes the dream work! We’ve experimented with all manner of team building activities over the years and have seen what works best. Without further ado, here are our top 3 team building activities:
1. Go-Karting for the adrenaline rush!
Get the competitive spirit pumping with a few laps around the race track! We tried this for the first time late in 2018 and it was an absolute winner. For energetic teams who live for the thrills, you can’t go wrong with a go-karting session. If you’re an Essex or Suffolk-based business, there are a decent handful of race tracks to choose from nearby – both inside and out. As a recruitment agency populated by challenge-oriented sales professionals, this activity was very popular with our recruiters! To give everyone a fair chance, try splitting teams into groups by ability. With the fast and furious in one league and the slow and steady in another, everyone’s bound to have a good time.
2. Escape Room to test your team’s problem-solving
With escape rooms’ popularity growing by the day, this one is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for anyone who enjoys putting their wits to the test. Most providers nowadays will have a range of themed rooms to choose from, so you can take your pick. If you want to encourage your team to pull together under pressure then this is a clear winner. Trapped in close quarters, your colleagues will have no choice but to operate as a whole if they are to work their way out. We will be trying this one out for ourselves at our next team building day and we expect to see an uptake in our overall collaboration quality as a recruitment agency afterwards!
3. Family Sports Day for the laughs!
Have your team been working themselves down to the bone? Have interpersonal tensions been creeping their way in? If you’re keen to make the most of brightening weather in the warmer months and want to inject some family feeling back into your team then this is a sure-fire way to go. With plenty of fields and rural space to choose from in the Essex and Suffolk area, it would be a shame to pass up on this one. For our last Family Fun Day, we rented out a variety of types of sporting and gym equipment, held races and games aplenty. If you’re looking for an outdoorsy team building activity that will get everyone smiling then you can’t go wrong with a good, old-fashioned Sports Day.
Why it’s worth it
Team building activities can be complicated to organise at first but we guarantee the effort is worth it. A successful day will give your team the chance to let their hair down, get to know each other and even improve the way they work together. As we like to say, the team that plays together stays together!
